Xiaomi teases dual-camera smartphone for India

India is quite the market for Xiaomi. According to data for the first quarter of this year, it holds the second spot in market share in the country, bested only by Samsung. The company introduced its first two dual-camera smartphones this year — the Mi 6 and Mi 5X — adding a highly-appreciated feature to its portfolio. However, neither of the two has made it to Indian users just yet.

This will soon be changing, according to Manu Kumar Jain, Managing Director at Xiaomi India. Via his Twitter profile, Jain announced that the first dual-camera Xiaomi smartphone in India will be officially on sale next month. However, not only did he fail to specify which one it will be, but he also asked if his followers could guess it.

We believe that Jain is probably teasing the Xiaomi Mi 5X. The handset was released in China just seven days ago, so it makes sense for it to come to other markets in the following weeks. If this proves to be the case, the Mi 5X will also be the first handset in India that comes with MIUI 9 out of the box.

The other option would be the Xiaomi Mi 6, but this was launched all the way back in April. While it does feature flagship specs, it might be late to the party, as other smartphones of the same class have been available in India for quite a while already. What’s more, last year’s Xiaomi Mi 5 made its Indian debut less than a month after it was launched in China. So, if Xiaomi planned to take the Mi 6 to India, it would have probably done so already.

Only time will tell whether our guess was correct. In the meantime, we’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below.
