Android O’s engineering team will hold a Reddit AMA, but don’t expect a name reveal

Android O has been with us since March, but Google’s upcoming mobile OS update has slowly matured from those alpha stages. That does not mean that people do not have questions related to the update, which is why Android O’s engineering team will hold a Reddit AMA to answer their burning questions.

The page is already up, but it makes clear that the engineers will only answer questions based on Android O’s engineering. As such, all the questions already on the Reddit thread regarding the name will likely not be answered, though we can always hold some shred of hope.

How stable is the third Android O developer preview?

Android O’s name is not the only thing on the docket, however – folks are also inquiring about Project Treble, which will theoretically allow companies to update their Android devices faster without having to go through their silicon partners first. Because of that theoretical, Android fans have hope that fragmentation, which has long been an issue in the Android space, will be at least somewhat minimized.

More specifically, Reddit users want to know whether Project Treble will work on devices that will get updated to Android O. Google already confirmed that new devices that launch with Android O will get the full Project Treble treatment.

More questions will inevitably pop up before the Android engineering team’s AMA, though Google confirmed there will be another developer preview sometime soon. Android O’s public release is still slated for release before the end of September.

In the meantime, the AMA is scheduled to start this Wednesday, July 19 at 12:00 PM PST (3:oo PM EST) and continue until 1:30 PM PST (4:30 PM EST).
